Helena Milburn

Helena Milburn is a senior at American University majoring in Journalism and minoring in Political Science. Helena is the Podcast Director of the AU student media group AWOL where she oversees the creation of investigative and non-investigative podcasts. Helena has been a part of AWOL since her freshman year, and has also held the roles of writer and editor. While studying abroad in London Helena also interned with the podcast production company Mags Creative conducting research for their podcasts. During the summer of 2023 Helena freelanced for the West Side Rag where she wrote an article about local efforts to help recently arrived asylum seekers in New York City public schools.

When she’s not reporting Helena can be found listening to music, watching soccer, or exploring D.C.
