I'm a tenured associate professor of Journalism, Accountability, and Democracy at American University's School of Communication. I have worked as an editor at the Workshop for nearly a decade, mentoring interns on public-records requests, in-depth interviewing, and writing. In January 2024, the University of Illinois Press published my first book, "Hedged: How Private Investment Funds Helped Destroy American Newspapers and Undermine Democracy," which won that year's Frank Luther Mott/Kappa Tau Alpha Research Award.
