Alvin Buyinza is a 2019 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology and journalism. While at UMass, Buyinza was the assistant news editor and assistant photo editor of The Massachusetts Daily Collegian, his campus newspaper, as well as a photographer for his school’s honors college.
Buyinza comes to IRW following a post-graduate internship with the Pew Research Center’s journalism team, where he worked on three projects relating to how Americans interact with the current news cycle.
Previously, he interned at Boston’s NPR station, WBUR, where he co-produced an hour-long segment for the On Point program titled, “Black Motherhood in the Spotlight,” and for the Christian Science Monitor, where he wrote long-form pieces on black identity in America. As a participant in the 2019 Politico Journalism Institute, he wrote about federal education policy.
